Whether you just received a medical diagnosis, in surveillance, or living with a chronic illness, such changes in life can bring added stressors in your life and perhaps your loved ones.
Anxiety and distress can affect you at any point from diagnosis, between treatment, and after completion of treatment.
Perhaps you find yourself hesitating to go to your next doctor's appointment.
Or maybe you notice your body tensing just thinking about your doctor's visit...
Maybe you feel scattered both emotionally and mentally.
Maybe you're noticing changes in your sleep patterns or lack of appetite.
Maybe you're finding yourself isolating from friends and family because they don't "get it".
Maybe you feel completely off balance, information flies over your head, and you have difficulty getting back on track.
Maybe you find yourself more easily frustrated or irritable.
You know that if you don’t learn better ways to manage your anxiety, your healing journey is going to be a struggle.
You know you want to experience more joy in your life again.
If you’re relating to anything I’ve said so far, you're not alone.
There's a reason for all of this, and why your body is responding the way it is.
Medical illnesses, whether it's acute or chronic, can bring on new levels of distress, awareness, and perspective in life.
It’s a lot to juggle in your headspace. From multiple appointments, feeling like you live at the doctor’s office, to thinking about your future health.
With the internet being easily-accessible, it’s easy to go down a rabbit hole, confusing your decision-making skills even more.
Perhaps your doctors means well, but you don’t feel heard.
Maybe you have the desire to be heard in a safe space, free of judgement and opinions. A space where you're seen as a unique individual with their own needs different from others.
The good news is, there is hope. There are ways to balance and manage your anxiety and overwhelm. There are strategies to improve your communication with your healthcare team.
You deserve to feel comfortable with the decisions you make about your own body.
You deserve joy in your life again. You are worthy of happiness.
As a starter, you have more control over this than you think.
Sometimes, even the most resilient and “toughest,” of people need a little help, direction, and encouragement. After all, illness isn’t something you welcomed into your life.
Imagine waking up with more calm, balance, and energy. A life where you feel empowered to navigate the medical rollercoaster with the tools you have on hand.
Imagine having a clear picture of what YOU WANT for yourself, not what you should do.
Imagine waking up feeling more rested to tackle a list of to-do’s.
Imagine a life of more confidence as you continue to engage with your medical team, family members, and friends.
If you’re curious about therapy, I offer an integrative approach that combines tangible tools, brain-body work, and insight to get you from surviving to thriving.
We work collaboratively to incorporate methods that help align your mind, body, and soul to your life and health goals.
I can proudly say, after over decades in the field, I have helped thousands of clients from feeling exhausted, anxious, and overwhelmed, to finding joy and balance in their lives again.
I have clients who went from feeling hopeless, to doing what they truly enjoy.
Illness does not have to define you.
You deserve to get your life back.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I meet with my entire family?
Medical illnesses can affect the entire family, and it’s not uncommon for other family members to need support as well. The focus of our therapy will be on the individual (yourself); however, it is common for family members to join a session or two to collectively move towards your goals and growth. Please see our family session rate.
When is the best time to seek therapy when you’re diagnosed with a medical condition?
This is very dependent on the individual. Therapy should be an added value to your life, not more stress as another “added appointment”. If you feel ready to seek change and support, it may be the right time. Please note our cancellation policy should you feel the medical appointments may interfere with counseling sessions.
How can I best support my child(ren)? Can they be part of the therapy session?
Typically, guidance on how to support your child(ren) is discussed along with available resources in your individual session. However, we do not currently offer therapy services to children.
How long will I need therapy?
This is dependent on the individual, their level of commitment, and the frequency of therapy sessions. During the initial consultation, your goals will be discussed. Throughout your therapy, your goals will be re-assessed, and it will be a mutual discussion whether therapy is showing to be effective or helpful. It may be helpful to keep in mind that therapy is not a linear process.
