Trauma therapy for women in cancer recovery: Based in california

You survived one of the biggest battles of your life…

”where do I go from here?”

Is often a common statement after finishing treatment with many survivors wondering how to move forward.

Every little win is a celebration to be recognized after going through cancer…

And yet, maybe you don’t find yourself motivated to celebrate, or maybe you’re not sure where to go from here.

Maybe you recognize that you have changed or that your perspective on life has changed.

You may feel unclear on how to return to work after going through something so life changing or maybe you’re not sure how to reconnect with loved ones.

Maybe parts of your treatment were quite distressing to you, that you know your body is feeling the wound of it all.

Maybe you’ve found yourself to be extra “reactive” which is unusual for you…

Or maybe you find yourself with less confidence or motivation to move forward with life.

While cancer treatments are advancing with more people in remission of disease (great news!), this also leaves more people needing to shift back to the “normalcy” of life after treatment when nothing feels “normal”.

Maybe this is your loved one, and you know they’re not the same person. You want to support them, but you’re not sure how.

Maybe you’ve gone through this being a parent to young children…you have the desire to model the best version of you, but you’re not sure how…

If this resonates, you’re not alone. In fact, it’s quite common.

The good news is, you’re in the right place.

With your unique individual need at hand, we will figure out how to move forward.

It’s been a transformative journey to offer EMDR therapy for cancer survivorship, and I wish the same for you.

From living in fear or feeling unworthy of happiness, to setting firm boundaries and feeling confident in their worth has been an awe inspiring experience to witness.

No one should have to walk this journey alone.

You deserve to be happy.

You deserve to find more calm.

You deserve to move forward feeling empowered.

You are worthy.

Imagine a life with more clarity, more calm.

Imagine a life with less fear and the ability to live authentically.

Imagine asking for help without the guilt or shame.

Imagine feeling inspired again.

What would that life look like for you?

We’ll dive into that a bit more in session…

In the meantime, I’m here to tell you, there is hope. I’ve seen it, and experienced it first hand.

Even the strongest and most resilient of people need a little guidance and support. Maybe even a little reassurance that there is progress being made.

I can help you get there while you are in the comfort of your own home.

If you’re curious about individual counseling, but the cost is an issue…we also offer group counseling specific to cancer survivorship. It’s just as beneficial with the added support of a community who “gets you.” To learn more, join our email list at the bottom of the page.

Each individual’s cancer journey is unique, and we treat therapy the same way. There’s no one right way to move forward, so we’ll collaboratively explore the best ways for you.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How will I know the treatment worked?

There is no straightforward answer to this as each individual’s experience is different. However, the purpose of trauma-focused therapy is to repair your brain’s memory and network so that you’re not constantly in a state of survival or fear.

If this is accomplished, the trauma is manageable without constant triggers getting in the way of your quality of life. It may be a subtle shift, or feel more significant.

Is trauma-focused therapy solely for trauma related to cancer?

No, trauma-focused therapy is effective for many traumas in addition to other symptoms such as anxiety and depression. However, the focus is to work on one specific distressing event at a time to re-wire your brain’s response one at a time. From experience, this process does not always look linear.

How long will this therapy take?

Kokoro Wellness focuses on intensive therapy. Intensive therapy offers a deep, focused approach to healing that differs from the traditional 50-minute therapy model. Instead of spreading treatment over months or years, intensives allow for accelerated progress in a safe, supportive environment.

If more sessions are found to be beneficial, our clinical recommendation will be provided. Intensives are a great conjunction to your routine talk therapy sessions.
